Recent years

Well here it is - this is what I've been up to for the last eighteen months! It has been an interesting and evenful project I have to admit, along the way we had to change studios, swap producers, we got flooded a couple of times, we had to pull Ayo's car out of a ditch one stormy night - hero! We were rescued by Angels ( with very kind wallets) and half way through recording vocals I got measles ( thank you Merchie).I also had a great time and a lot of laughs.

These Are My People -
This was written for and about a friend of mine who I met in London years ago. When I knew him he was living in a Dr Barnados childrens home. His father had left Nigeria and brought his son with him to make a new life in Britain. Things went wrong and eventually my friend went into care. He lost contact with his father . Time went by and he grew up, bought a flat, found a job and a girlfriend, as you do. One day he opened the door to a woman dressed in Nigerian clothing. She told him that she was his mother and that as his father was dead ( presumably ) she had traced her son and wanted him to come home with her to be the new leader of the tribe. After the intial shock my chum agreed to visit just for a holiday and because he was curious to see his roots. He never came back from that visit. In a letter that he sent to me he wrote " Vikki, from the time that I set foot in my village I knew I had come home" He's still there.

Last Love
This is a love song for all the people who are maybe second or third time partners. A friend of mine once said to me that she didn't mind being her partners third wife as long as she knew she would be the LAST one!

Shackletons Song

I am such a BIG fan of Ernest Shackleton the polar explorer, I have literally read the book seen the film and bought the t shirt. If you know nothing of him then I recommend you check out this amazing man. He is inspiring!

Bewitched

This song is for a very dear friend of mine and yes she is a white witch!

The Ballad of Pearl and Deene

written about true events that I witnessed

Too Beautiful

I am a great admirer of pre raphelite painter Edward Burne Jones. Indeed, The Beguiling of Merlin from Movers and Shakers was inspired by his painting of the same name. EBG had a rather turbulent affair with one of his models - in it's day it was a bit like an Edwardian version of "Fatal Attraction" in many ways. The affair was rather amusing to his contemporaries ( tho' probably not his wife) and was referred to as "poor Ned's troubles" Artists beware.

Looking at the Stars

This is message of hope and comfort . There was a time not so long back when it seemed that all my friends were going through some tough times. So I wrote this for them and anyone, anywhere who is struggling and needs a little push. As Oscar Wilde said" We are all of us lying in the gutter, but some of are looking at the stars" (perhaps he'd been drinking too!)

The Present

Yeah, this is a soppy love song. I wrote the song when I fell in love with a most divine long distance truck driver. I wont say anymore or he'll blush.!

Snakebite

A song about jealousy. Not very nice I admit, but heartfelt.
Was it Kenneth Williams who threatened his friends that he would include them in his diary if they upset him? I've noticed that since I wrote the song people have been very wary of upsetting me...

Coming Soon
I wish I could tell you more about his song, but I wrote it almost subconciously. One day I was at the piano with a pen and paper and the next minute this song was born. It was a gift from someone, somewhere.

The Awakening

Oh I love this song so much. It's a joy to sing. Again I cant tell you where it came from. It was born after a wonderful dream.

Anne Of Lochroyan

This is my homage to the wonderful ballads that I listened to in my early days as a singer. Songs like Tam Lin and Thomas the Rhymer. I love the spooky story of the song. Witchcraft , Magic, Good and Evil all play their part. I make no apology for the lengthof the song. I suggest you sit down with a long drink and follow the story. I also invite you to admire the sheer brilliance of playing from all the musicians on this track.

Stars

The Instrumental featuring Spencer Cozens and Chris Conway. This track in particular is dedicated to three little girls that I know, two of whom are my god-daughters. Each one of these three little charmers twinkle and shine in their very own special way, and I love them for that alone.....
